Grand Banks

Grand Banks is a restaurant in New York, at Pier 25 Hudson River Park.

It’s easy to forget that the concrete jungle is also an island, with a long and colorful maritime history. Grand Banks brings that history to life aboard a repurposed sailing vessel, with thoughtful touches like portholes and a pristine wooden deck. The crowd is boisterous, no one comes to Grand Banks for peace and quiet. The tables and bar area are routinely crowded, which means both great people watching AND eavesdropping. Bring a couple of friends and make an afternoon and evening of it, and stay for sunset.

Musts

Oysters, duh, lobster roll, tomatoes and watermelon, and signature cocktails Permanent Vacation, a deadly (not really) rum punch, and I’m The Captain Now, a rye whiskey drink, because it’s just fun to order.

Good to know

Grand Banks has spawned more maritime-themed spots in NYC, including Pilot, docked in Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Island Oyster, located on Governors Island, accessible by ferry.
