Buenos Aires

Café Tortoni

Café Tortoni is a cafe in Buenos Aires, at 825 Avenida de Mayo.

The most famous cafe in Argentina. Opened in 1858 by a French immigrant, inspired by fin de siècle coffee houses of Paris, it's the quintessential "porteño" cafe and has served historically as a gathering place for intellectuals, writers, musicians, and artists, including Benito Quinquela Martin who designed La Boca's Caminito. Enjoy the ornate, elaborate mouldings, a $1.4 million Tiffany glass ceiling, several Tiffany lights, and smooth, circular marble-topped tables as found in many traditional Buenos Aires cafes.
