La Boca
La Boca is an attraction in Buenos Aires, at Calle Caminito.
La Boca is a working-class neighbourhood near the Riachuelo River. It's also a hive of activity, buzzing with laughter and pulsing tango rhythms. The area retains a strong European feel, with many of the area's early immigrants coming from Genoa, Italy. It has a cluster of attractions, including Caminito, a short alley flanked by brightly painted zinc shacks that represent the district's early immigrant days, La Bombonera, the home of Boca Juniors football team, and the Museo Bellas Artes de La Boca Benito Quinquela Martín with evocative paintings from the 1950's. Like New York City's Lower East Side and London's East End, La Boca was the first district where new immigrants in Buenos Aires settled themselves, which would explain the origin of "lunfardo", Argentinian slang commonly used in tango.
Good to know
Best to avoid La Boca after dusk, or drifting too far away from main tourist attractions.
