Soho
The French House
The French House is a bar in Soho, London, at 49 Dean St.
The French House on Dean Street has been a Soho institution for a century, a haunt of artists, writers and actors, and an unofficial meeting place for the Free French during the war. It serves beer only in half pints, pours Champagne and wine by the glass, and bans music, TV and mobile phones. A small dining room upstairs serves French bistro cooking.
Musts
A glass of Champagne or pastis at the bar, beer by the half pint, a bistro lunch in the upstairs dining room
Good to know
The no-phones rule is enforced, which is half the charm. Expect a crowd spilling onto Dean Street on summer evenings.
