Monti
La Carbonara
La Carbonara is a restaurant in Monti, Rome, at Via Panisperna 214.
La Carbonara has been feeding Monti from the slope of Via Panisperna since 1906, and the Rossi family still runs the dining room and kitchen. The cooking is robust old Roman food: a famous carbonara, boiled meats, offal done the old way, roast chicken with potatoes, and homemade desserts.
Musts
Spaghetti alla carbonara, ricotta and walnut girasoli, the bollito, fried vegetables, and house crostata or profiteroles.
Good to know
The name has nothing to do with the pasta. The first owner and cook was married to the charcoal seller who had a shop across the street. Closed on Sundays.
