El Malo is a windowless, velvet-and-neon cocktail lounge at Atlanta Dairies built around rum, agave and a serious sound system. You walk in through hulking double doors and a red-lit hallway into a room of art deco light pillars, tropical-wallpapered booths and a plush green lounge in the back. Beverage director Gabe Bowen's inventive cocktails lean on clarified drinks and milk punches, DJs spin disco, house, salsa and Caribbean rhythms, and the kitchen sends out Cuban and coastal small plates.

Good to know
It's mostly a stand-and-sip bar, so book a booth ahead if you want a seat. DJs play on weekends and the back Serpent Room is padded floor to ceiling in green velvet.
